ROAD WARRIORS REVEAL 2010-11 TOP MOMENT NO. 6

Greenville Road WarriorsGREENVILLE, SC Continuing their countdown of the top moments from their inaugural season in the ECHL, the Greenville Road Warriors revealed today top moment number six.

The Greenville Road Warriors and Cincinnati Cyclones had plenty of connections even though it was the Road Warriors‘ first season in the ECHL. Head coach Dean Stork left his position as an assistant coach of four years with the Cyclones to take charge of the Road Warriors while forwards Jimmy Kilpatrick, Mark Voakes, and Chris Clackson had all suited up for the Cyclones previously in their careers. Those connections injected instant animosity to the rivalry; animosity that grew after the Cyclones pulled off a dramatic overtime win at US Bank Arena in late February when the teams met for the first time.

The teams went to overtime, and eventually a shootout, in the opener of the series at the BI-LO Center and the Road Warriors escaped with a 3-2 victory. The next night proved to be not nearly as dramatic, but no less exciting. In support of goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu, who was making his Road Warriors debut, the Road Warriors’ offense erupted for five goals. One would have been sufficient as Beckford-Tseu stonewalled all 27 of Cincinnati’s shots. Possibly frustrated by the flow of the game, Cincinnati lashed out against the Road Warriors late in the second period and Greenville’s response provided the sixth-most memorable moment of the season.
