RICHARDS A RANGER

New York RangersIt’s official – Nine Years nearly $60million dollars and a $6.5/year hit to the cap. Let’s see if the Rangers a) can now sign all their Restricted Free Agents b) find chemistry with Marion Gaborik and c) find a scoring top line left winger so that the Blueshirts have a legitimate first line.

As we see it, this is an awful long time to give a 31-year old player who had concussion issues last season and while he has been a very good player, he has not played in a media market like New York City and may well be on the down side of his career.

For the entire organization to save some face on this move, they’d better win a Stanley Cup and soon or people will be screaming about any one of the multitude of deals to again veterans than brought with them great promise but delivered nothing more than higher ticket prices.

Now, if the Rangers CAN find a left wing that can put it in the net and have chemistry with Richards and Gaborik, then the Rangers become a VERY dangerous teams with two very good scoring lines up front and depth on the third and fourth lines and a strong defensive core and excellent goaltending.

Conference call coming shortly with Sather, Richards and Tortorella.

Here’s the official release:
