The Danbury Whalers and TK’s American Cafe in Danbury are proud to announce that on Saturday, December 3rd at 7:35 pm when the Danbury Whalers take on the Cape Cod Bluefins that night’s promotion will be a tribute New Haven Hockey.
The elements of the night are still being developed, but the outline is currently as follows:
The night will be about paying tribute to the 76 years (1926-2002) of professional hockey history in the City of New Haven.
Former New Haven Nighthawks player and NHL player Nick Fotiu will make an appearance at the game. Fotiu had three different stints in New Haven (77-78, 85-86, & 89-09). Fotiu will speak to the crowd about his years in New Haven and will also be available for pictures and autographs.
The Danbury Whalers will wear throwback New Haven Nighthawks jerseys for the first period of that night’s game. The jerseys will be auctioned off and signed by the players. The jersey to be worn will have the silver and black look of the Nightshawks in the last 80’s when the club was affiliated Los Angeles Kings.
There will be a traveling New Haven Hockey museum display of memorabilia, clippings, and other artifacts. This will be provided by Kevin Tennyson & Heather Bernardi the other authors of the book Hockey in New Haven.
The Danbury Whalers organization is currently working on developing themes for the night. We appreciate all of the thoughts and ideas that have already been passed on and would specifically like to thank Danbury Whalers fans – Dave Wilson, Anthony Griek, Dan “The Situation” Sparano, and Ira Schwartz, and the Whalers own, Jerry Deno & Phil Esposito.
Tom Kennedy, Owner & Operator of TK’s American Cafe, who got their start in New Haven, “We had a lot great nights in New Haven. This is a special night and I’m real honored to be a part of it.”
If you are a fan of New Haven Hockey this is a night you won’t want to miss. If you have any thoughts and ideas on how we can make this night better, contact Herm Sorcher at 973-713-7547 or email hsorcher@thedanburywhalers.com.
