Greenville continues their unbeaten streak to 6-0-1 dating back to October 27th with a 5-3 victory at the Ford Center. The Road Warriors victory did not come easy as the team had to overcome early goals by Evansville. Trent Vogelhuber scored the first of his season to put Evansville up early. The game picked up the same physicality as the day before which lead to a Bretton Cameron and Dale Mahovsky fight toward the end of the first.
The second period would remain the same score until the 7 minute mark when Josh Beaulieu put the second Icemen goal behind netminder Nathan Lieuwen. Francis Verreault would bring the Road Warriors within one almost 5 minutes later with a powerplay goal. 58 seconds later the IceMen would respond with Vogelhuber’s second goal of the game. Evansville continued to apply sustained pressure in the Road Warriors zone but only outshot Greenville 10-7 in the period.
The third period continued with more penalties handed out but in Greenville’s favor. Brendan Connolly would then catch fire for the Road Warriors scoring his second of the season on the powerplay. Two minutes later, Connolly would score another goal tying the game at 3. He took a wide shot from Scott Pitt off the boards and put it past goaltender Paul Karpowich. Nathan Moon was penalized after the goal for cross checking Verreault which lead to another powerplay goal 1:03 later. Mike Marcou scored his second goal in as many games which proved to be the game winner for Greenville. Wong and Vallerand were given the assists on the goal and extended both players point streaks to 6 games. Brendan Connolly was not done as he scored a hat trick goal with 50 seconds left in the game which was also on the powerplay. Rob Kwiet and Verreault collected assists on the hat trick goal. Kwiet also had his point streak reach 6 games. Greenville outshot Evansville 13-4 in the final period. The Road Warriors finished the night 4-8 on the man advantage and killed all 5 Evansville powerplays. Lieuwen got his fourth consecutive win in net stopping 24 of 27 shots. Karpowich took the loss saving 29 of 34 shots.
