Road Stretch Nearly Closed

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (23-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, played their fifth straight game on the road on Saturday night in Orlando, FL. The week began in the sunshine state against the Florida Everblades where Greenville earned an overtime point. Against the top-seeded Everblades, the Swamp Rabbits recorded four goals in the second period but eventually fell in overtime. Greenville’s four second period tallies took the team to a  +16 scoring differential during the middle frame. Only four other teams have a better differential in the second period. The team’s seven-game point streak was halted on Thursday when Orlando earned a 3-2 win in regulation. The Swamp Rabbits were 5-0-2-0 prior to that game. For the first time in 13 games this season, Greenville fell in regulation when outshooting its opponent. Saturday’s 6-3 loss featured 45 Swamp Rabbits shots on net versus 33 shots from Orlando.

Hot Hare – Bretton Cameron (3 GP – 3 PTS – 1G, 2A)

Swamp Rabbits captain, Bretton Cameron, recorded a power play goal on Saturday and added two assists this week. The seventh-year pro earned a point in each game and built on his second-longest point streak of the season. Cameron also produced a season-high six shots on net on Saturday in Orlando, FL. The Red Deer, AB native currently leads the Swamp Rabbits in all goal scoring categories netting 13 goals, four on the power play, and two shorthanded. Cameron is third among active Swamp Rabbits with 26 points (13G, 13A) in 43 games.

Back in Blue and Orange: Brandon Alderson returned to the Swamp Rabbits today from the AHL. The fourth-year pro has 22 points (11G, 11A) in 20 games this season. He ranks second in goal scoring among active Swamp Rabbits skaters.

Up and At ‘Em: Tommy Thompson made his AHL debut with the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday, recording one shot on net. Prior to his call-up, the rookie had scored a team-leading 14 goals for the Swamp Rabbits.
