Sunken Ships and Tamed Bears

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (26-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, brought the brooms to a three-game party, sweeping through the Norfolk Admirals and Orlando Solar Bears. Mackenzie Skapski helped headline the wins making over 100 saves in three consecutive starts. Wednesday in Norfolk, Greenville earned two-goal nights from Michael Joly and Nick Betz in route to a 6-2 victory. The Swamp Rabbits scored a season-high five goals in the third period to overcome the 2-1 deficit they were facing at the start of the final period. Friday night’s 5-3 win over Orlando on the 4th annual Stick-It-To-Cancer Night presented by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System was highlighted by Bretton Cameron’s hat trick, helping him to score his team-leading 16th goal of the season. Thanks to the fans and partners, more than $13,000 will be donated to local cancer-related non-profit organizations! The intensity was high on Saturday night. Greenville prevailed 5-2 on the strength of another two-goal performance by Michael Joly. The rookie has scored 14 goals in 19 games. In total, 14 different skaters earned a point as the Swamp Rabbits captured sole possession of second place in the South Division.

Hot Hare – Brandon Alderson (3 GP – 6 PTS – 1G, 5A)

A fourth-year pro, Brandon Alderson is continuing to improve on a career season with the Swamp Rabbits. After returning to Greenville from the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch, the winger totaled six points (1G, 5A) in three games including a career-best three assist night on Friday against Orlando. The Oakville, ON native has netted three goals on the power play including one on Saturday night. Alderson is fourth on the team with 28 points (12G, 16A) despite playing in only 23 games. His average of 1.22 points per game leads the Swamp Rabbits this season.

Rabbit Tails

Deadly Sniper: Michael Joly netted the first penalty shot opportunity this season for Greenville. The rookie joins six other skaters this year to score on a penalty shot and is third in the league in shooting percentage (25%).

A Trio of Tallies: Bretton Cameron’s hat trick was the second of his career. The first was recorded on January 17, 2013, in Greenville against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Cameron’s 16 goals tie a career best earned with Stockton in 2010-11.

The Leader of the Pack: Leading scorer Angelo Miceli is on a five-game point streak, earning six points (3G, 3A) in those contests. He leads the Swamp Rabbits with 44 points (10G, 34A) in 45 games and 10 multi-point performances.

This Team is Special: The Swamp Rabbits scored a power play goal in each game last week, going 3-for-15 (20.0%). The team also has the best penalty kill in the ECHL, stopping 86.0% of opposition power plays.

Scoring Surge: Greenville has averaged 4.17 goals per game during the month of February; the team’s best monthly scoring production this season. The team will play seven more games in February, which includes a stretch of four games in five days on the road to end the month.
