Tosti: Swamp Rabbits Stuffed for First Time This Season
Jacksonville keeps all 36 Greenville shots out of the net as the Swamp Rabbits drop first game against Icemen this season.

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (15-12-2-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, put plenty of shots on goal in tonight’s game against the Jacksonville Icemen (7-15-2-2) but were unable to find the back of the net. The Icemen added an empty net goal late in the third period seal a 3-0 win on the road.

Iceman forward Elgin Pearce had both goals for Jacksonville in the second period to open the scoring. The first came in transition on a broken play by Garet Hunt to spring the team’s leading scorer on a breakaway. The winger tucked in his ninth goal of the season just inside the right post at 8:26.
The Swamp Rabbits battled back in the game and even had chances in the first to open the scoring. Icemen goaltender Austin Lotz held Greenville off the score sheet and was also a key piece on the penalty kill. Greenville would finish the game 0-for-5 on the power play. At the opposite crease, Brandon Halverson made 29 saves as both goals were scored against the netminder during odd-man rushes.
Pearce connected again with Tanner Eberle on a 2-on-1 to extend the Icemen lead to 2-0. With less than three minutes left in the second period, Eberle gained the offensive line and sent a pass to the left side of the slot and Pearce deflected the pass over Halverson’s shoulder and into the net.
Greenville came back in the third period and sent 11 shots on net. Scrum after scrum in front of the crease came up short for the Swamp Rabbits, forcing Halverson to vacate the net for an extra skater. The man advantage for Greenville did not translate into a goal and Jacksonville earned one final tally on the empty net.
The Swamp Rabbits outshot the Icemen 36-32 but were held off the scoreboard for the first time this season. Greenville is now 2-1-0-0 against the Jacksonville this season and will play seven more head-to-head games. Greenville hosts the South Carolina Stingrays tomorrow night at 7 p.m. to finish a 3-in-3 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
