Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced today that forward Caleb Herbert has been released from his PTO with the Hartford Wolf Pack and will be returning to the Swamp Rabbits. Greenville’s most prolific scorer rejoins the team after earning 36 points (16G, 20A) in 23 games this season.

Herbert, 26, was promoted to the Wolf Pack on Dec. 17 after having monumental success in the first two months of the season. In the AHL, Herbert made an immediate impact, netting a goal and adding an assist in his first game with Hartford. In total, the fourth-year pro played eight games and earned three points (1G, 2A) with nine shots on goal.
The Bloomington, Minnesota jumped out atop the ECHL’s scoring race to begin the season, establishing the Swamp Rabbits longest point streak in franchise history. Herbert earned at least one point in 17 straight games, scoring 11 goals and adding 17 assists to begin the campaign. The 6-foot, 195-pound forward still ranks eighth in the league with 36 points despite playing fewer games than the other top-20 scorers in the ECHL.

Herbert was named the CCM / ECHL Player of the Month in November among other accolades. He earned recognition as Sher-Wood Hockey / ECHL Player of the Week in November and was also selected as the AMI Graphics Plus Performer of the month, earning a +12 rating. Herbert was the fastest Swamp Rabbits player to tally 30 points in franchise history and currently ranks fourth in the ECHL with a +19 rating.

The 2010 Washington Capitals draft pick has played 93 career ECHL games between the Swamp Rabbits, Idaho Steelheads, and South Carolina Stingrays during pro career. Herbert has also logged 88 AHL games in the last four seasons between the Hershey Bears and Texas Stars. The forward has tallied 11 goals and added 12 assists in the AHL.

Prior to turning pro, Herbert skated three seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth earning 89 points (32G, 57A) in 112 career games.

Herbert rejoins the Swamp Rabbits on the team’s trip to Jacksonville to face the Icemen on Wednesday night. Greenville drops the puck against the Icemen for the third time this season at 7:30 p.m. at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
