Greenville, SC – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf from Pack, announced today that the team had acquired forward Shane Walsh from the Cincinnati Cyclones in exchange for future considerations. The second-year forward is coming off a 45-point rookie season in 2016-17 between Cincinnati and Utah.
Walsh, 26, has played 11 games this season after missing considerable time. The forward played in the team’s home opener against Kalamazoo on Oct. 14 but missed the following 20 games due to injury. Since returning to the lineup in the middle of December, Walsh has taken 13 shots on goal.
Last season, the rookie was one of the most impressive in the ECHL. The West Roxbury, Massachusetts native earned 10 points (5G, 5A) in 17 games to begin his ECHL career with the Utah Grizzlies. Walsh collected 35 points (14G, 21A) in 54 games after his acquisition by the Cyclones on Nov. 29, 2016. Walsh ended the campaign, fourth on the Cyclones and 16th among all rookies in the league with 45 points (19G, 26A) in 71 games. Walsh was third among first-year skaters behind Ralph Cuddemi and Ahti Oksanen with 208 shots.
The Swamp Rabbits new 5-foot-10, 183-pound forward played four seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, earning 67 points (36G, 31A) in 133 games. Before his NCAA career, Walsh also suited up for the Dubuque Fighting Saints for parts of two seasons, winning the 2011 Kelly Cup Championship.
Walsh joins the team ahead of tomorrow night’s return to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Greenville takes the ice against the Orlando Solar Bears at 7 p.m.
