NEW YORK RANGERS PROSPECT REPORT: FEB. 26

• Lias Andersson tallied a goal and posted a plus-one rating on Feb. 24 vs. Providence. The Rangers’ first-round pick (seventh overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft has registered eight points (four goals, four assists) in the last 10 games, as well as 10 points (four goals, six assists) through his first 15 career AHL games.

• Filip Chytil registered an assist and posted a plus-two rating on Feb. 23 vs. Hershey. The Rangers’ first-round pick (21st overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft has tallied 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists) and has posted a plus-four rating in 36 AHL games with the Wolf Pack this season. Chytil ranks sixth among AHL rookies in points per game this season (0.75), and he leads Hartford in plus/minus rating in 2017-18.

• Ryan Sproul recorded three assists/points and 11 shots on goal in three games during the week. He has tallied a point in five of his last six AHL games, registering eight points (three goals, five assists) over the span. Sproul has recorded 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in 44 AHL games this season.

• Cole Schneider recorded two points (one goal, one assist) and registered six shots on goal on Feb. 23 vs. Hershey. He has tallied 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) with the Wolf Pack this season, and he leads the team in assists in 2017-18.

• Brandon Halverson stopped 36 of 38 shots he faced on Feb. 25 at Providence. The Rangers’ second-round pick (59th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has made at least 35 saves in three of his five AHL appearances this season.

• Boo Nieves registered the game-winning goal on Feb. 24 vs. Providence. He has tallied seven points (two goals, five assists) in the last 14 games. Nieves has recorded 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 24 AHL games with the Wolf Pack this season, including eight points (two goals, six assists) in 17 games since rejoining Hartford on Jan. 15. 

• Chris Nell stopped 21 of 22 shots he faced to earn a win on Feb. 24 vs. Providence. Nell has allowed two goals or fewer in two of his last three AHL appearances with the Wolf Pack.

• Yegor Rykov was acquired by the Rangers in a trade with the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 22. Rykov, a 20-year-old defenseman from Vidnoe, Russia, has skated in 51 games with SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) this season, registering two goals and 12 assists for 14 points, along with a plus-13 rating and 20 penalty minutes. He has established KHL career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, and plus/minus rating this season. In addition, Rykov helped SKA St. Petersburg win the Gagarin Cup as KHL Champions during his rookie season in 2016-17, and he was selected as the KHL’s Rookie of the Week during the Gagarin Cup Quarterfinals and during the Gagarin Cup Finals. The 6-3, 225-pounder helped Russia earn a bronze medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship, registering one goal and six assists for seven points, along with a plus-seven rating in seven games. Rykov was selected as one of the Top Three Players on his team, and he tied for first among all defensemen in assists in the tournament.

• Ryan Lindgren was acquired by the Rangers in a trade with the Boston Bruins on Feb. 25. Lindgren, a 20-year-old defenseman from Burnsville, Minnesota, has skated in 33 collegiate games with the University of Minnesota this season, registering two goals and five assists for seven points, along with 49 penalty minutes. A sophomore in college, Lindgren has played in 65 career collegiate games, registering three goals and 11 assists for 14 points, along with a plus-seven rating and 114 penalty minutes. He was selected to the Big Ten’s All-Rookie Team and was an Honorable Mention for the Big Ten All-Star Team during his freshman year in 2016-17, as he helped the University of Minnesota win the Big Ten Regular Season Championship. Lindgren is also serving as one of the University of Minnesota’s alternate captains this season. In addition, the 6-0, 202-pounder has represented the United States in several tournaments. Lindgren helped the United States earn a bronze medal at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, and he won a gold medal while representing the United States at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship. He also served as the captain for the United States at the 2016 IIHF World U18 Championship, recording five points (two goals, three assists) and a plus-five rating in seven games to help the United States earn a bronze medal. Lindgren was originally selected by Boston in the second round, 49th overall, of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

• Tim Gettinger tallied two assists, both of which were shorthanded, and registered an assist on the game-winning goal on Feb. 25 at London. The Rangers’ fifth-round pick (141st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft has notched a point in 12 of the last 17 games (nine goals, 11 assists) and has registered a point in 18 of the last 25 games, tallying 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) over the span. Gettinger has recorded 60 points (30 goals, 30 assists) and a plus-31 rating in 57 games with the Greyhounds this season, and he has established OHL career-highs in assists, points, shots on goal (222), power play goals (six), shorthanded goals (five), and game-winning goals (seven) in 2017-18. Gettinger is also one goal away from tying his OHL career-high, and he has registered at least 30 goals in each of the last two seasons. He is tied for ninth in the OHL in plus/minus rating and ranks 13th in the OHL in shots on goal this season. In addition, Gettinger ranks third among OHL forwards in plus/minus rating this season, and he is one of four OHL players who have registered 30 or more goals and a plus-30 rating or better in 2017-18. Gettinger also leads Sault Ste. Marie in shots on goal, shorthanded assists (four), and shorthanded points (nine), is tied for first in shorthanded goals, is tied for second in game-winning goals, and ranks third in goals and points in 2017-18.

• Ty Ronning tallied an assist and posted a plus-one rating in Vancouver’s only game of the week on Feb. 23 vs. Everett. The Rangers’ seventh-round pick (201st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft has registered 15 points (11 goals, four assists) in the last 10 games. Ronning has tallied 53 goals and 21 assists for 74 points in 59 WHL games in 2017-18. He ranks second in the WHL in shots on goal (292) and ranks third in the league in goals this season. In addition, Ronning leads Vancouver in goals, points, plus/minus rating (plus-14), power play goals (14), and shots on goal in 2017-18. He has also established WHL career-highs in goals, points, and game-winning goals (eight) this season.

• Morgan Barron tallied two points (one goal, one assist), including the game-winning goal, recorded four shots on goal, and posted a plus-two rating on Feb. 23 against RPI. The Rangers’ sixth-round pick (174th overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft has registered 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) and a plus-10 rating in 29 games with Cornell this season, and three of his five goals have been game-winning goals. Cornell has posted a 13-0-0 record in games which Barron has tallied a point this season. He is tied for fourth on the team – and leads team freshmen – in points thus far in 2017-18.

• Igor Shesterkin won a gold medal as a member of the Olympic Athletes from Russia Team at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
