Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced today that forward Caleb Herbert has returned to the club from the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. Herbert was released from his professional try-out in San Jose after logging four points (1G, 3A) in 14 games.

Herbert, 26, has played 22 AHL games this season between promotions to Hartford and San Jose. In those games, the Bloomington, Minnesota native has scored a pair of goals and added five assists. Herbert has played 102 games at the AHL level, collecting 12 goals and adding 15 assists in four professional seasons.

The 6-foot forward has had a breakout season in his time with the Swamp Rabbits. In 35 games, Herbert posted 47 points (20G, 27A) and returns to the lineup as the club’s leading producer on the active roster. The high-end scorer was the fastest Swamp Rabbits player to tally 30 points in franchise history, reaching the mark just 19 games into the campaign.

He has collected accolades as CCM / ECHL Player of the Month, AMI Graphics / ECHL Plus Performer, Sher-Wood Hockey / ECHL Player of the Week and broke a franchise record by achieving a league-best 17-game point streak to begin the season. His work in the ECHL led to promotions to Hartford on Dec. 17 and to San Jose on Feb 12.

The product of the University of Minnesota-Duluth has earned 97 points (53G, 44A) in 105 career ECHL games. Since turning pro in 2014, Herbert has suited up for seven different teams, compiling 124 points (65G, 59A) and 207 games across the AHL and ECHL.

The 2010 Washington Capitals draft pick was a three-year skater for Minnesota-Duluth in the NCAA, posting 89 points (32G, 57A) in 112 games. He led the Bulldogs in scoring as a junior before making his pro debut with the Hershey Bears on Apr. 4, 2014, where he tallied a goal and added an assist.

Herbert rejoins the Swamp Rabbits as the club prepares for a pair of home games against the South Carolina Stingrays. Free Kids Day is tonight at 7 p.m. while Fan Appreciation Night wraps up the Swamp Rabbits home schedule tomorrow at 7 p.m.
