CWede... You're analysis here is WAY off base.

But I will start with things where I agree with you. Trading away Tommy Kundratek I thought was a mistake at the time and still do. I think the vets this season were not as productive or as consistent as they should have been, but at the same time, it's the reason they're in the AHL and not the NHL.

BUT first off, JJ and Kenny do NOT make the decisions as to who they have there or who gets traded. That is done in NY. G can only play with the players he's sent and is given direction as to who they want to work on. Secondly, you mention Nightingale, Redden and Bell. Nighters was a VERY productive defenseman and that was why he was picked up so quickly by Syracuse (Norfolk from the year before). He's a solid and productive defense-first D-man. Redden is Redden. If you get a veteran, especially one with such a great attitude as he did when he was here, and with the talent he has - you play him. I would have played him and so would you. Incidentally, ask Michael Del Zotto or ANY of the defensemen who played with him the level of impact that Redden had on them. Bell, I don't have much of a defense for other than he had the potential to light it up, but again, there's a reason he's in the AHL and not the NHL.

But where you REALLY went wrong is on your being critical of Kenny and his development skills. Think about how many guys in the NHL right now came through and where taught by G how to be professionals. On the Rangers alone right now, you have Hagelin, Kreider, Zuccarello, Del Zotto, Gilroy, McDonaugh, all have been with the team and learned under G. If you go outside the organ-eye-zation, it would take me all day to list them all. You're VERY wrong about that.

In the AHL, you can only do the best you can with the players you're dealt. This was a weak and inconsistent team. It happens, but you don't disregard all that G has done to make the Rangers the team they are...who by the way are also struggling mightily with consistency I might add.

I think the Rangers are going to clean house in the off-season. If Cap geek is correct, I think the Rangers will resign Ryan Clowe as a UFA. Stepan, Hagelin will both get healthy raises as RFA's and Zuccarello will be resigned too. He's also an RFA.

Hamerlik is going to be let to walk. McDonagh will be resigned as an RFA and Sauer will be let go. I think Eminger will be resigned and Gilroy won't. I also think the Rangers will use their remaining Amnesty Buyout to rid themselves of Brad Richards contract.

In Hartford, I can't see them resigning ANY of their Free agents (Collins, Pyett, Segal, Vernace) except MAYBE Segal. I think their RFA's Ferriero, Niemi, Palmieri and Mashinter will all go and not be tendered. There are a lot of kids signed for next year, Conor Allen on D, McIlrath wil lbe back, JT Miller, Christian Thomas, Kyle Jean, Ryan Bourque, Jesper Fast, Andrew Yogan, Oscar Lindberg, Bickel, Missiaen, Josh Nicholls, Marek Hrivik, Michael St. Croix, Tommy Hughes, Newbury, Haley, Jason Wilson, Michael Kantor and of course Cam Talbot.

But the bottom line again, Gernander has done a masterful job and trust me when I tell you this that if he were let go, he would be unemployed for less than a week I can tell you that. He is VERY respected in this league. It would be a GIGANTIC mistake to take him out of Hartford.

If the trade of a career minor leaguer is the crux of a failed season, then the team was too fragile to begin with. Let's place responsibility on the unproductive vets, and slow-developing kids, for the too-frequent blown 3rd-periods.
If any trade scuttled the Whale season, it was last year's senseless dumping of Kundratek (for a fragile, unrestricted, under-performer), which continued to haunt both the Whale and Rangers.
That mishandling perhaps should have cost Daigneault and Gernander their jobs then. The Whale staff failed their player-development responsibility to the organization, by preferring Nightingale, Redden and Bell every game, over TK, who (besides Erixon) was the only D-prospect with unquestioned all-round skills and NHL potential.
KG is dedicated and industrious and a Hartford hockey celebrity, but has not proven himself either by winning, or by developing NHL'ers.
It may be time to bring in a more proven coach and teacher, as another handful of NHL-potential prospects will join next season as rookies (or first-year North America pro's).
