Swamp Rabbits Playoff Run Ended in North Charleston

Bitter end to Game 6 wraps up the season for Greenville as Stingrays move on to Division Final.

North Charleston, SC The Greenville Swamp Rabbits’, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, aspirations of a Kelly Cup Championship ended tonight after dropping Game 6 of the South Division Semifinal. Greenville fell short tonight at the North Charleston Coliseum in a 4-0 finish as the Stingrays take the first-round series 4-2. South Carolina awaits either the Florida Everblades or Orlando Solar Bears who will play Game 6 tomorrow night.

Out of the first period, the pace of play was fast and furious. The Stingrays came out swinging back at Greenville’s pace and tallied 19 shots on net. Jeff Malcolm came out calm and collected early on, making save after save against the Stingrays. The Greenville netminder made a game-high 18 saves in the opening period and eventually ended the game with 28 saves. Continue reading

GAME 6: Swamp Rabbits Enter Must-Win Contest in North Charleston

Greenville heads into pivotal South Division Semifinal game against Stingrays tonight with the season on the line.

RABBIT TALES

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, and the South Carolina Stingrays square off tonight at 7:05 p.m. for Game 6 of the South Division Semifinal. Greenville requires a win to keep their season alive as the Stingrays lead 3-2 in the first round series. Tonight’s game marks the 20th time Greenville and South Carolina have played this season and the 11th time at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Swamp Rabbits took a 2-0 advantage in the series, but South Carolina has battled back to win the last three games. The Stingrays have won their last five contests on home ice dating back to April 2nd. The Swamp Rabbits have outscored the Stingrays 12-8 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in the postseason, but the Stingrays tallied 12 goals in two games at the Coliseum. With a win tonight, Greenville would force a deciding Game 7 tomorrow night back in Greenville. Continue reading

Swamp Rabbits Edged on Home Ice by Stingrays

Greenville downed 4-2 tonight and have backs against the wall headed into Game 6

Greenville, SC The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, failed to hold home ice advantage tonight against the South Carolina Stingrays, falling on the wrong side of a 4-2 finish. The South Division Semifinal returned to the Bon Secours Wellness Arena following a two-game trip to North Charleston. The Stingrays have taken the last three games of the series to lead 3-2.

The Swamp Rabbits ripped the first goal of the contest during the opening period. The Swamp Rabbits newest forward Brodie Dupont tossed a puck to Matt Prapavessis on the right circle. His initial shot missed wide of the net and wrapped to Allan McPherson on the blue line. The third-year forward laced a pass back to Prapavessis in the right circle. The defenseman walked into the high slot and ripped a shot into the net through the body of Stingrays defenseman Danny Federico. Continue reading

South Division Semifinal series tied at 2-2 as home teams continue to shine between Greenville and South Carolina.

North Charleston, SC The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, fell 6-1 tonight against the South Carolina Stingrays on the road in Game 4 of the South Division Semifinal. Following wins at home in Games 1 and 2, the Stingrays matched Greenville’s series lead. Each home team has owned the games. Through 240 minutes of gameplay through four games, the away team has not held the lead. Continue reading

Swamp Rabbits Drop Game 3 in North Charleston

Swamp Rabbits series lead now at 2-1 after Stingrays turn the tables in North Charleston

North Charleston, SC The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, were halted tonight at the North Charleston Coliseum by the South Carolina Stingrays in a 6-0 decision. The Stingrays turned a complete 180 from Games 1 and 2, to earn the first win of the best-of-7 South Division Semifinal series. Parker Milner collected his first career playoff shutout in the game to bounce the Stingrays back.

Greenville hit the road for the first time in the postseason after grabbing a 2-0 series lead at home. North Charleston was not friendly to the Swamp Rabbits who trailed for the first time all series in the first period. Olivier Archambault netted his first goal of the playoffs on a puck that ricochets to the right side of the net. Steve Weinstein let the shot go from the left point as it bounced to the side for Archambault. The goal at 11:05 proved to be the game-winner and was the first of multiple goals around the crease.

A minute later, the Stingrays took the 2-0 lead as Rob Flick had a puck slide in off his skate. The sixth-year pro raced to the front of the net and Wade Epp’s shot from the blue line bounced in off his boot. Flick would tally a hat trick in the contest, recording South Carolina’s final two goals in the third period. Continue reading

Malcolm Makes 39 Saves as Swamp Rabbits Earn 4-1 Win against Stingrays

Greenville earns back-to-back wins over South Carolina on home ice to take 2-0 series lead in Kelly Cup Playoffs

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, took care of home ice earning a 4-1 victory in Game 2 of the South Division Semifinal against the South Carolina Stingrays. Jeff Malcolm was stellar in the game, making 39 saves in goal while Tyler Brown connected for two goals to propel the Swamp Rabbits offense. Greenville takes a 2-0 series lead against South Carolina headed into Games 3 and 4 in North Charleston, SC.

The Swamp Rabbits came out firing on all cylinders in the first period for the second straight night. Brandon Alderson and Brown collected the first goals of the game as the Swamp Rabbits took the advantage into the intermission. Greenville ended up in 4-on-4 in a period riddled by penalties and scrums. Andrew Dommett took the puck down the ice and Desmond Bergin tossed it across the crease to Brown on the left post. The forward tapped the puck into the net for his third goal of the postseason at 7:56. Continue reading

TOSTI: SWAMP RABBITS LAUNCH TO EARLY LEAD IN GAME 1 VICTORY

Swamp Rabbits Launch to Early Lead in Game 1 Victory

Greenville takes advantage of early offensive outpouring and begins series against South Carolina on the right foot.

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, toppled the South Carolina Stingrays 6-3 to take Game 1 of the South Division Semifinal round of the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Greenville took a commanding lead in the first half of the contest, amassing a 5-1 lead over the Stingrays. Multi-goal efforts by Brandon Alderson and Allan McPherson fueled the win in addition to a 34 save performance by Jeff Malcolm.

The Swamp Rabbits wasted no time in the game, securing a 2-0 advantage less than six minutes into the night. Alderson and his linemates, Angelo Miceli and Bretton Cameron, connected on three quick passes in the offensive zone before the fourth-year pro netted Greenville’s first playoff goal. Cameron trucked down the ice and got the puck to the front of the net where Alderson eventually tallied his tenth career playoff goal less than four minutes into the game.

Tyler Brown joined the action less than two minutes later in transition. McPherson took the puck down the ice and found the winger in the high slot before lacing a shot off the post and into the net. Continue reading

First Round Schedule

Greenville to battle South Carolina in best-of-seven series beginning Thursday night at Bon Secours Wellness Arena

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced the round one schedule for the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Greenville squares off against the South Carolina Stingrays in a best-of-seven series after playing 14 times during the regular season.

The Swamp Rabbits begin the series on Thursday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Greenville will play the first two games on Sandlapper Securities Rink. Games three and four will be played in North Charleston, SC, before trading home contests for games five, six, and seven as needed. The first team to win four games in the series will advance to the Division Final round.

The first round of games between the Swamp Rabbits and Stingrays are listed below:

The Swamp Rabbits berth in the postseason marks the team’s first trip back since 2014 when the team advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals. South Carolina has made the playoffs all but one season in franchise history (2007). Last year, the Stingrays also qualified for the Eastern Conference Final after losing in the Kelly Cup Final in 2015.

Swamp Rabbits Slip in Season Finale Against Gladiators

Greenville ends the regular season on the wrong end of a 6-2 decision in Duluth, GA before heading to the playoffs

Duluth, GA – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (40-26-5-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, dropped tonight’s season finale against the Atlanta Gladiators (27-37-6-2) by the final score of 6-2. The Swamp Rabbits collected points in five straight games leading up to the final game of the regular season but came just short in Duluth, GA. Greenville ends the season with an 8-4-1-0 record against the Gladiators, who came up short of the post-season for the fourth consecutive season.

Greenville broke netminder Matt Ginn at the tail end of the second period. The goaltender made 32 saves and had a shutout through nearly two periods. Nick Betz was able to cut the Gladiators lead down to 2-1 on a deflection goal at 18:48. Desmond Bergin lofted a puck to the net and the 6-foot-5 rookie tapped it through the legs of Ginn. Swamp Rabbits Lock-In #2 Seed with Overtime Win

Greenville knocks out Cincinnati with their tenth overtime victory and clinches second place in South Division.

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (40-25-5-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, went back to overtime tonight against the Cincinnati Cyclones (36-29-5-1) before knocking their South Division opponent out of postseason contention. Greenville’s 3-2 victory is the second earned against Cincinnati in overtime as the Swamp Rabbits took home ice advantage during the first round of the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Greenville also reached 40 wins for only the third time in franchise history.

Allan McPherson tallied the first goal of the game 4:30 into the first period. The center was assisted by Adam Chapie and Joe Houk, but managed his goal on an individual effort. The third year pro had his first shot from the blue line blocked before collecting the loose puck again. Walking into the slot and ripping a shot into the net, McPherson tallied his ninth goal of the season. Continue reading
