CANTLON: (SAT) UCONN DOUBLED UP BY YALE

   VERSUS

BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings

HARTFORD, CT – It was as simple as this. UConn was flat as a pancake and Yale University wasn’t. UConn was outskated, outhustled and outshot by Yale in a  4-2 win over the Huskies on a snowy Saturday before a crowd of 4,909 at the XL Center.

UConn’s record falls to 8-7-6 overall, 4-3-2 HEA while Yale improves to .500 for the season at 6-6-2 overall, 2-5-1 ECACHL. The Huskies are in action Tuesday night in Bridgeport for a Hockey East meeting against the University of Maine in a home-and-home series in two different arenas. Next Saturday, UConn is a part of the Frozen Fenway doubleheader.

Yale plays the last of their Hockey East opponents Tuesday at Ingalls Rink against Providence College.

The score could have been much worse for the Huskies had it not been for the outstanding play in the net by freshmen goaltender, Adam Huska (37 saves). Huska faced a blizzard of twelve Yale shots right from the opening seconds of the game. Huska allowing only one goal from the onslaught.

“Our goalie played well and our two seniors, Evan Richardson, and Brian Morgan, (who each had a team high of five shots). We didn’t play well and credit to Yale for that. They were quicker, won the puck battles, and we had maybe one shift in the second (period) where we got riding time in their zone. Other than that, it was all Yale, It was a 60-minute win for them. They didn’t allow us to do anything,” UConn head coach Mike Cavanaugh so accurately said. Continue reading
