The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (28-19-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, hit the road for a six-game stretch beginning with a tilt versus the Reading Royals (31-17-1-2) tonight at 7 p.m. Greenville will take the ice at the Santander Arena in Reading, PA twice this week, finishing a four-game season series with the Royals on Sunday evening. The teams matched up in Greenville in December with the Swamp Rabbits earning a pair of one-goal wins. Bretton Cameron netted two shorthanded goals to singlehandedly sealed a 2-1 victory the first night. The Swamp Rabbits then battled back to earn a 5-4 victory the following night. Since those contests, the playoff contenders have propelled into second place in their respective divisions riding hot streaks during the first two months of 2017. Greenville’s leading scorer Angelo Miceli hit the 50-point mark (14G, 36A) last week and carries an eight-game point streak into the evening. Forward Returns for a Second Stint with Hartford

HARTFORD, February 21, 2017:  Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Wolf Pack has signed forward Tommy Thompson to a Professional Tryout (PTO) agreement.

Thompson, a 26-year-old rookie out of St. Lawrence University, played one game with the Wolf Pack on an earlier PTO, going scoreless with one shot on goal.  In 43 games with the Wolf Pack’s ECHL affiliate, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, the 6-1, 196-pound Thompson has 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points, plus 21 penalty minutes.  He is tied for third on the Greenville club in goals and tied for fifth in points.

The Wolf Pack’s next action is this Friday night, February 24, when the Hershey Bears come to the XL Center for a 7:15 PM game.  As at all Friday-night Wolf Pack home games, fans can enjoy $1 and $2 beers through the start of the second period, and the first 2,000 fans will receive the fourth of four sets of Wolf Pack 20th-anniversary trading cards being given away during this 2016-17 season, presented by KOTA. The set is comprised of the group of the players chosen as the top five all-time in franchise history.

1 – Ryan Gropp, LW, Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL) – Gropp registered a multi-point game in each of the first four games he played last week, recording nine points (three goals, six assists) over the span. He extended his point streak to a career-high, 16 games before the streak ended in Seattle’s final game of the week on Feb. 19 at Portland.

During his 16-game point streak, Gropp…

  • Registered 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) and a plus-21 rating
  • Recorded 26 primary points (either a goal or the primary assist on a goal); 12 of his 21 assists were primary assists
  • Posted a six-game assist streak (Jan. 21 – Jan. 31), a seven-game assist streak (Feb. 8 – Feb. 18), and an eight-game goal streak (Feb. 3 – Feb. 14)
  • Recorded 11 multi-point games, including eight consecutive multi-point games from Feb. 7 – Feb. 18
  • Posted a plus-one rating or better in 13 contests

In addition, the Rangers’ second-round pick (41st overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has recorded a point in 21 of the last 23 contests, registering 41 points (16 goals, 25 assists) and a plus-28 rating in those 23 games. Gropp leads Seattle in points (65), is tied for the team lead in goals (25), and ranks second in assists (40) this season, and he has established his WHL career-high in assists in 2016-17. RABBIT TALES

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (28-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, take to the ice this afternoon at 3 p.m. against the South Division and Eastern Conference-leading Florida Everblades (33-10-2-3). Last night the Swamp Rabbits halted an eight-game streak for Florida, earning a late come from behind 5-4 win. Justin DaSilva netted his sixth goal of the season and his first career game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation. The three unanswered tallies pushed the Swamp Rabbits current winning streak to five games, earning a share of second place in the South Division with South Carolina. Greenville ends a five-game stretch on the Sandlapper Securities Rink today in its eighth game against Florida this season. The Swamp Rabbits own a 2-3-2-0 record against the Everblades who are 26-6-2-2 against divisional opponents this season. Greenville is second in the division with 22 wins against teams from the south.

CAM THIS BE ANY BETTER?

Bretton Cameron is having a career year in his seventh pro season. The Greenville captain scored his career-best 17th goal of the year last night while on the power play. The 5-foot-11 skater is third on the team in scoring with 32 points (17G, 15A) through 48 games. Cameron’s career-best point producing season was 2011-12 when he earned 38 points (12G, 26A) in 64 games. He is also tied for the team lead with Spiro Goulakos with six power play goals after both players tallied a man advantage goal last night. Continue reading

Allentown, PA, February 18, 2017 – The Hartford Wolf Pack outshot the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 44-27, and had a 24-5 shots advantage in the third period, Saturday night at the PPL Center, but fell to the Phantoms 6-4, in the second of back-to-back games between the two teams.

It was nearly a mirror image of the previous night’s game, which saw the Wolf Pack outshot 44-18, including 25-5 in the third, but prevailed by a score of 3-2.

Justin Fontaine had a goal and an assist for Hartford Saturday, and Steven Kampfer and Chris Brown had two assists apiece, but Danick Martel had the game-winning goal and an assist for Lehigh Valley, and Andy Miele and T.J. Brennan added a goal and an assist each. Continue reading

RABBIT TALES

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (27-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, meet a divisional rival tonight on the Sandlapper Securities Rink seeking a seventh straight win on home ice. The Florida Everblades (33-9-2-3) are atop the ECHL’s Eastern Conference with 71 points and are the only team not to reach ten regulation losses at this point in the season. The Swamp Rabbits have won four straight and are tied for third in the tightly wound South Division. Greenville begins a set of two games with Florida following a 4-3 overtime win against Manchester on Thursday night. Leading scorer Angelo Miceli netted the game-tying and game-winning goals in that game and leads the Swamp Rabbits with 46 points (12G, 34A). The Everblades leading scorer is Brant Harris, who has earned 56 points (22G, 34A) this season. Continue reading

Allentown, PA, February 17, 2017 – Brandon Halverson made a Hartford Wolf Pack season-high 42 saves Friday night at the PPL Center, as the Wolf Pack defeated the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 3-2, despite being outshot 44-18.

The game was the first of a back-to-back set between the two teams in Allentown.

Philip McRae had the third-period game-winning goal for the Wolf Pack and added an assist, and Marek Hrivik and Nicklas Jensen also had Wolf Pack goals.  Mark Alt and Scott Laughton scored for the Phantoms in the third, in which Lehigh Valley outshot Hartford 25-5. Continue reading

Angelo Miceli and Swamp Rabbits Come Back for Overtime Win Against Monarchs

Leading scorer becomes the late hero against Manchester as Greenville earns ECHL leading eighth win in overtime.

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (27-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, downed the North Division leading Manchester Monarchs (29-12-5-4) tonight after trailing 3-2 with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. Angelo Miceli tied the game and then won it in overtime, scoring his 12th goal of the season. It is also the first overtime goal scored by Miceli in his career. The Swamp Rabbits have won four games in a row and the last six played at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

Miceli and the Swamp Rabbits put on a show in front of a record-setting Thursday night crowd of 4,773. With less than four minutes to play in the game, the Swamp Rabbits went on the power play for the fifth time, scoring the first and only goal on the man advantage. HARTFORD, February 15, 2017:  Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Wolf Pack has released forward Allan McPherson from his Professional Tryout (PTO) agreement, and has returned defenseman Spiro Goulakos on loan to its ECHL affiliate, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

McPherson, who had been with the Wolf Pack since December 5, skated in 28 games with Hartford, contributing one goal and three assists for four points and serving 14 minutes in penalties.  Prior to joining the Wolf Pack, the third-year pro out of Clarkson University had logged seven games with the Swamp Rabbits, producing one goal and three assists for four points and registering one minor penalty. The Wolf Pack (18-26-3-2, 41 pts., .418) managed a split of a set of Atlantic Division road games this past Friday and Saturday. On Friday night in Springfield, the Wolf Pack were outshot 34-16, but Brandon Halverson made 32 saves for his third straight win, and Adam Tambellini struck for his first professional hat trick, to lift Hartford to a 3-2 win.  The Wolf Pack were unable to come back fully from a 2-0 first-period deficit in Hershey Saturday, though, falling to the Bears by a score of 4-2.  Nicklas Jensen upped his team-leading, and AHL career-high, goal total to 21 with a tally in that game.  Continue reading
