Swamp Rabbits Have Win Streak Clipped By Blades

Greenville ends three-game week on the wrong end of 4-3 game with Florida, ending five-game win streak

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (28-19-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, matched up with the Florida Everblades (34-10-2-3) down to a third-period decision of 4-3, taking their first loss at home in over a month. The Swamp Rabbits held the lead twice against the Everblades, but couldn’t hold on for a weekend sweep of the South Division leaders. Greenville’s home win streak comes to an end at five straight games while also going 4-1-0-0 in a five-game home stand.

The Swamp Rabbits dominated the early part of the hockey game, putting on a show for a season-high 7,276 fans at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The puck luck found Florida first, despite being out shot 9-3 in the first ten minutes. The Everblades Matt Harrington would net the first goal of the game at 12:39, but it didn’t take long for Greenville’s response. Less than a minute later, Tyler Brown deflected his third goal of the season into the net. Matt Prapavessis flew a shot to the front of the net for the fifth-year pro to redirect it past Anthony Peters. Continue reading

Swamp Rabbits’ Pucks and Paws Returns For Another Season

Special game benefiting Greenville County Animal Care featuring local artist, Joe Everson

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, are excited to host this season’s Pucks and Paws game on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

The fundraiser will benefit various animal rescue organizations including Greenville County Animal Care who offers animal adoptions and affordable spay and neutering operations. The County owned animal shelter is moving the Greenville community toward becoming a no-kill community. Members of the players’ families will be posted at each entrance to accept pet food donations on behalf of Greenville County Animal Care at the beginning of the game. Other rescue organizations featured for the game include Last Chance Animal Rescue and Lucky Pup Rescue.

“The Greenville community is so dog-friendly and this has become a fan favorite for our dog-loving fans and friends,” said Chris Lewis, President of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. “There are so many local organizations trying to give homeless dogs, and animals in general, another chance at life, and we are proud and passionate about helping those efforts in any way that we can.”

Fans are encouraged to bring their four-legged friends to participate in game day activities. Dogs will be allowed into the game, free of charge, and there will also be bathroom stations at each entrance. Activities will include a Small Dog Race on the ice for dogs under 35 pounds and the Simba Cam, where fans lift their dogs in the stands during timeouts – like the movie, “Lion King.”

Throughout the game, dogs and their owners will have the chance to win dog-related prizes including a free four-week group obedience class from Astro Kennels, $100 gift certificate to Upstate Dog Academy, and a free portrait of your dog by the Swamp Rabbits’ Official Artist, Joe Everson. Dog-free areas are available for the game and information can be obtained by contacting the Swamp Rabbits at 864-674-7825.

Swamp Rabbits Knock Off Solar Bears with Third Straight Win

Greenville stops Solar Bears in tracks and overtakes South Division rival for second in the standings.

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (26-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, were propelled to a 5-2 victory over the Orlando Solar Bears (24-17-5-2) tonight by their forward, Michael Joly, and goaltender, Mackenzie Skapski. The rookie forward scored two goals in the game while the third year netminder made 37 saves. Greenville leap-frogged Orlando in the South Division standings and are 6-4-1-0 against the Solar Bears this season.

Joly has been the most dynamic goal scorer for the Swamp Rabbits this season. The rookie from Gatineau, QC has scored 14 goals in 19 games for the Swamp Rabbits and is tied for second on the team. The QMJHL standout scored his first goal of the game battling for the puck in front of the net. A shot from Justin DaSilva rattled in front of the crease and Joly batted the puck into the net off a defenseman. At that point, Greenville was ahead 2-1 headed into the second period. TOSTI: ALDERSON RETURNS FROM AHL TO RABBITS

Brandon Alderson Returns from AHL

Swamp Rabbits scoring threat re-joins the team ahead of three-game week against South Division opponents

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (23-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced today that forward Brandon Alderson has been returned to the Swamp Rabbits by the Syracuse Crunch. Alderson played eight games in the AHL for Syracuse while on loan. Additionally, the Swamp Rabbits have added Ryan de Melo from the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs (SPHL) as an emergency backup goaltender.

Alderson earned his second call-up of the season and sixth of his pro career on January 16th. At the time of his call-up, Alderson was tied for the team lead with 11 goals and ranked third on the team in scoring with 22 points (11G, 11A). The Oakville, ON native recorded a point in 11 straight games (8G, 10A) from November 13th to January 11th, a career best and the longest streak of the season for Greenville. His seven multi-point games are the second most on the team.

The fourth-year pro began his career in the AHL with the Adirondack Phantoms and has compiled 144 AHL games since his rookie season. In those contests, Alderson earned 32 points (17G, 15A). He made his ECHL debut on November 28th, 2014 with Reading against Greenville. Alderson has compiled 64 points (29G, 35A) in 96 ECHL games after earning an assist in his debut. Continue reading

Swamp Rabbits Shell Gladiators 8-3

Greenville rolls to daunting win over Atlanta to sweep the week and set multiple season highs

Duluth, GA – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (23-16-3-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, bested the Atlanta Gladiators (16-19-6-1) tonight at the Infinite Energy Center in a dominant 8-3 decision. Greenville has won 6-of-7 games against Atlanta this season after netting a season-high eight goals. With the win, the Swamp Rabbits achieve second place in the South Division, earning 50 points.

Angelo Miceli drew the attention of the Gladiators both in the game and on the first goal. Battling in the right corner, the center opening up room for Desmond Bergin to score the first goal of the night. The Swamp Rabbits leading scorer pulled the puck out of a battle in the corner and fired it to the blue liner, all alone in the high slot. Bergin didn’t miss on the shot and earned his seventh goal of the season at 8:36 of the first period. Continue reading

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (21-16-3-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, look to continue their success against the Atlanta Gladiators (16-18-6-1) tonight at 7:35 p.m. The South Division opponents meet at the Infinite Energy Arena for the second straight night. Greenville skated away with a 3-2 overtime win last night, beating the Gladiators for the fifth time this season. The I-85 rivals have played three times in Duluth, GA and the Swamp Rabbits have won the last three games against Atlanta. Angelo Miceli leads the Swamp Rabbits with 34 points (5G, 29A). Brock Higgs is second in the ECHL with 33 assists, helping him lead the Gladiators with 45 points (12G, 33A). No Gladiators skater has totaled more than three points against Greenville this season. Swamp Rabbits Come Back to Earn Overtime Win Against Gladiators

Joe Houk factors in on tying and winning goals against Atlanta as Greenville wins seventh game in overtime this season

Duluth, GAThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (22-16-3-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, earned a 3-2 victory tonight against the Atlanta Gladiators (16-18-6-1) to earn an ECHL leading seventh overtime win. Tommy Thompson put the game away in the extra period for his fourth consecutive game-winning goal. The Swamp Rabbits own a 5-1-0-0 record against the Gladiators with seven games left against each other this season.

Joe Houk was able to give the Swamp Rabbits the chance following a long scoring drought. After a scoreless second period and nearly 13 minutes without a goal in the third, the blueliner netted his ninth tally of the season. Tristan King put his first shot on net from the side of the net and the rebound sat on the goal line for Houk to bury the tying goal. Continue reading

Swamp Rabbits Offense Halted by Admirals

Greenville falls at home to Norfolk tonight as red-hot goaltender continues shutout streak

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (18-15-2-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, fell 3-0 in a physical affair with the Norfolk Admirals (11-20-4-0) tonight. The season series now rests at 2-2-0-0 against Norfolk. Greenville will play one more contest tomorrow to end a four-game week. Norfolk has now won its last five games.

Greenville’s offense was stymied by goaltender Brandon Anderson, who has been the hottest goaltender in the ECHL. The netminder stopped all 27 shots he faced and earned his third consecutive shutout. His personal shutout streak has reached 11 periods and over 90 saves. The fourth-year pro has come on this season in nine games with the Admirals, going 7-1-0-0 in his return to the ECHL.

After the Swamp Rabbits controlled the play and earned a pair of early power plays, the Admirals broke down the ice to score their first goal. Joey Benik netted a goal on a 2-on-1 up the ice. The recent addition by the Admirals from Bakersfield (AHL) ended the game with the empty net goal in the third period, capping a two-goal night. In his first two games in the ECHL, Benik has scored three goals and added two helpers. Continue reading

MCGINNISS: TITANS EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO SIX

      VERSUS

DANBURY, CT The Danbury Titans extended their winning streak to six straight games with a 4-1 victory over the St. Clair Shores Fighting Saints on Faith and Family Night and CityCenter Danbury Night, presented by 1 Kennedy Flats at the Danbury Ice Arena. Danbury goaltender Nick Niedert would stop 23 of 24 shots on the way to his fifth victory of the season, and the Titans penalty kill would go a perfect 8 for 8.

The Titans would score their first just 1:19 into the game as Tyler Noseworthy scored his first as a Danbury Titan, finishing off a two on one with Dalton Jay.  Matt Coleman’s 7th of the year would extend the lead to two just over halfway through the period with Matt Graham and John Schiavo picking up the helpers.  Shots on goal would be tied at 9 to end the period, though the quality scoring chances were decidedly in Danbury’s favor. CANTLON: PACK AND HUSKIES WEEKEND PREVIEW

Pack Start a Major Weekend of Three Games

HARTFORD, CT – There have been several critical points in the first half of the Hartford Wolf Pack’s 20th anniversary season. Maybe none more so than this coming weekend. It could decide if the season can be redeemed or if it will sadly lead to becoming the team’s worst in franchise history.

The Pack, who seemed to be gaining some momentum with a season-high four game winning streak, have lost any gained momentum and confidence with their current four-game losing streak.

The only difference between their earlier floundering and their current play is that in this slide, they have played well, but right now, the bounces have not fallen in their favor.The team is dead last in the division and the conference with a record of 11-18-3-1 (26 points). Continue reading
