Kelly Cup Playoff: Round One – Game Two

Reading, PA: For the second night in a row, the Road Warriors couldn’t solved Reading netminder Riley Gill and were shutout 4-0 by the Royals.

Reading carried much of the momentum for the first period largely thanks to three penalties to the Road Warriors. Reading would outshoot the Road Warriors 13-6 in the period. Goalie Connor Knapp stood tall in net for Greenville, stopping all 13 shots he faced in the period. Continue reading

Reading, PA: Yannick Tifu‘s second period goal combined with a stifling Reading Royals defense and a solid performance between the pipes from netminder Riley Gill, handed the Greenville Road Warriors a 1-0 loss in front of 3,272 at the Sovereign Center in Game One of the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Recap of Last Week

The Road Warriors completed the regular season with three games in three nights. The stretch of games began on Thursday against the South Carolina Stingrays. Sebastien Piche returned to the lineup for the first time since December 23rd and scored the only goal for the Road Warriors in a 5-1 loss. The Road Warriors played the final home game of the regular season on Friday night and again faced their intrastate rivals. The third largest crowd in Road Warriors history of 6,802, with all three coming this season, watched the Road Warriors fall to the Stingrays by a 3-1 score. Sean Berkstresser was the lone goal scorer for Greenville. The final regular season game of the year took place in Gwinnett against the Gladiators on Saturday night. Brendan Connolly tied a personal high with his 24th goal this season. Once again, the Road Warriors could only gather one goal in a 4-1 loss. Continue reading

ROAD WARRIORS STUNG IN SC

Greenville, SC: Peter Boyd, Eric Alexander, and Robby Dee combined for nine points in a South Carolina 5-1 victory over the Road Warriors.

Greenville began the first period with a good sustained attack which gave way to a Jason Wilson five minute major for charging. The momentum shifted in favor of South Carolina as the Stingrays created a few chances but could not grab the lead. It took 17:44 for a goal to be scored. Boyd stepped into the zone untouched to beat Connor Knapp over his blocker for his 21st of the year. Continue reading
