RABBIT TALES

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (28-19-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, hit the road for a six-game stretch beginning with a tilt versus the Reading Royals (31-17-1-2) tonight at 7 p.m. Greenville will take the ice at the Santander Arena in Reading, PA twice this week, finishing a four-game season series with the Royals on Sunday evening. The teams matched up in Greenville in December with the Swamp Rabbits earning a pair of one-goal wins. Bretton Cameron netted two shorthanded goals to singlehandedly sealed a 2-1 victory the first night. The Swamp Rabbits then battled back to earn a 5-4 victory the following night. Since those contests, the playoff contenders have propelled into second place in their respective divisions riding hot streaks during the first two months of 2017. Greenville’s leading scorer Angelo Miceli hit the 50-point mark (14G, 36A) last week and carries an eight-game point streak into the evening. CANTLON: (SAT) PACK LOSE IN HERSHEY

HERSHEY, PA – After stealing one in Springfield the night before, the Hartford Wolf Pack couldn’t duplicate the same success in Hershey dropping a 4-2 decision to the Bears on Saturday night before 10,561 at the Giant Center.

The Bears took a lead at 7:57 of the first period when Travis Boyd intercepted Pack starting goaltender, Brandon Halverson’s, clearing attempt from behind the net. Boyd came along the right wing boards and deposited the puck into the open net for his eleventh goal of the season and gave the Bears a 1-0 lead. It was the 33rd time out of 49 games played that the Pack’s opposition has scored the game’s first goal.

The Bears added to their lead on a gorgeous play at 18:11. Continue reading

Swamp Rabbits Sign Goaltender P.J. Musico

Greenville brings second-year goaltender back to the Upstate after brief stint with Fort Wayne

Greenville, SCThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (24-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, announced today that free agent goaltender P.J. Musico has been signed by the team. The second-year netminder began the season with the Swamp Rabbits and begins his third stint with the team since turning pro.

Musico was traded to the Fort Wayne Komets on December 29th after playing one game with the Swamp Rabbits this season. In his only game, the netminder made 35 saves in a 5-3 victory against the Wheeling Nailers on November 27th. He owned a 1-2-1-0 record, 3.46 goals against average, and .884 save percentage with the Komets in five appearances.

Musico began his professional career with the Swamp Rabbits last season and led the team with seven victories despite making just 13 appearances. Overall, he posted a 7-3-1 record with a 2.35 goals-against-average and .925 save percentage. He earned a victory in his pro debut against South Carolina on Oct. 23 and notched his first pro shutout on Nov. 25 with a 26-save effort at Norfolk. Continue reading

HARTFORD, CT Six Toronto Marlies had multiple point games as a second-period collapse by the Wolf Pack allowed the Marlies to pull away for a 5-3 victory dropping the Pack to its third straight loss.

“I thought we battled hard all night the goal early in the second period and they got some powerplay goals. Not much to say about that. We had to kill off some significant amount of penalty time. In my mind’s eye, we battled hard,” Pack head coach Ken Gernander said.

Mistakes and a bad ten-minute span threw everything good the Pack had done out the window. Continue reading

Three Stars of the week1) Pavel Buchnevich, LW, Severstal Cherepovets (KHL) – Buchnevich registered four points (three goals, one assist) in three games this past week. The Rangers’ third round pick (75th overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft notched an assist on Nov. 16 against HC Slovan Bratislava, and tallied his first career KHL hat trick on Nov. 19 against Medvescak Zagreb. Buchnevich also recorded five shots on goal and logged 21:53 of ice time on Nov. 21 against HC Slovan Bratislava. Continue reading

2015 TRAVERSE CITY TOURNAMENT

The annual prospect tournament is set to begin on September 11

NEW YORK, August 31, 2015 – Today, the New York Rangers announced their roster for the 2015 Traverse City Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. The Blueshirts are making their ninth consecutive appearance in the eight-team tournament, which is set to begin on Friday, September 11.

New York’s roster features 23 prospects, including three of the team’s selections in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft: Ryan Gropp, Sergey Zborovskiy, and Brad Morrison. The roster also features defenseman Brady Skjei, who was selected by the Rangers in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and is participating in the Traverse City Tournament for the first time.

Five of the prospects on the roster also represented the Rangers at the 2014 Traverse City Tournament, including Traverse City, Michigan native Brandon Halverson. In addition, 13 players on the Rangers’ roster for the 2015 Traverse City Tournament also participated in the team’s annual Prospect Development Camp this summer.

The Rangers are one of four teams that comprise the Ted Lindsay Division, along with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues. The Blueshirts begin the tournament with a contest against Minnesota on Friday, September 11 at 3:30 p.m. New York will face the Blues on Saturday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. and the Blue Jackets on Monday, September 14 at 3:30 p.m. Following their three round-robin games, the Rangers will have a placement game against a team from the Gordie Howe Division on Tuesday, September 15.

In the eight years the Rangers have previously participated in the Traverse City Tournament, they have reached the Championship Game twice and won the tournament in 2007. Current Blueshirts such as Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan, Marc Staal, J.T. Miller, and Kevin Hayes all represented the team at the tournament in recent years.
