RABBIT TALES

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (28-19-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, hit the road for a six-game stretch beginning with a tilt versus the Reading Royals (31-17-1-2) tonight at 7 p.m. Greenville will take the ice at the Santander Arena in Reading, PA twice this week, finishing a four-game season series with the Royals on Sunday evening. The teams matched up in Greenville in December with the Swamp Rabbits earning a pair of one-goal wins. Bretton Cameron netted two shorthanded goals to singlehandedly sealed a 2-1 victory the first night. The Swamp Rabbits then battled back to earn a 5-4 victory the following night. Since those contests, the playoff contenders have propelled into second place in their respective divisions riding hot streaks during the first two months of 2017. Greenville’s leading scorer Angelo Miceli hit the 50-point mark (14G, 36A) last week and carries an eight-game point streak into the evening. Robbie Czarnik leads the Royals with 46 points (19G, 27A). Continue reading

Swamp Rabbits head into six-game road trip after tying longest win streak of the season

Statement Week For Swamp Rabbits

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (28-19-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, started a week’s worth of home games against the North Division leading Manchester Monarchs and South Division leading Florida Everblades. Thursday night the Swamp Rabbits began the week with a teeter-totter matchup against Manchester. Trailing 3-2 in the final two minutes of regulation, Angelo Miceli netted the game-tying goal to force overtime before scoring the game-winning goal in the extra time. Two nights later, Greenville fans saw similar heroics. The Florida Everblades held a 4-2 lead early in the third period before the Swamp Rabbits scored three unanswered goals. Bretton Cameron deflected in Greenville’s second power-play goal of the game, followed by another game-tying goal from Miceli. With exactly one minute left on the clock, Justin DaSilva fired in his sixth goal of the season and first career game-winner. The win lifted Greenville to a 7-0-0-0 record at home dating back to January 15th and also continued a streak of five consecutive wins. Despite a close contest against the Everblades on Sunday, the Swamp Rabbits couldn’t complete the sweep, dropping the contest by a score of 4-3. Continue reading

The Blueshirts lead the NHL in third-period goals in 2016-17 (80), and as of the conclusion of tonight’s game, the Rangers are the only NHL team that has recorded at least 80 goals in any period thus far this season.
–        ON POINT – Rangers defensemen tallied three points (one goal, two assists) in tonight’s game and have registered nine points (four goals, five assists) over the last three games.

CANTLON: (SAT) PACK LOSE IN HERSHEY

HERSHEY, PA – After stealing one in Springfield the night before, the Hartford Wolf Pack couldn’t duplicate the same success in Hershey dropping a 4-2 decision to the Bears on Saturday night before 10,561 at the Giant Center.

The Bears took a lead at 7:57 of the first period when Travis Boyd intercepted Pack starting goaltender, Brandon Halverson’s, clearing attempt from behind the net. Boyd came along the right wing boards and deposited the puck into the open net for his eleventh goal of the season and gave the Bears a 1-0 lead. It was the 33rd time out of 49 games played that the Pack’s opposition has scored the game’s first goal.

The Bears added to their lead on a gorgeous play at 18:11. Continue reading

Greenville takes six points against South Division opponents and prepares for a three-game week versus Manchester and Florida.

Sunken Ships and Tamed Bears

The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (26-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, brought the brooms to a three-game party, sweeping through the Norfolk Admirals and Orlando Solar Bears. Mackenzie Skapski helped headline the wins making over 100 saves in three consecutive starts. Wednesday in Norfolk, Greenville earned two-goal nights from Michael Joly and Nick Betz in route to a 6-2 victory. The Swamp Rabbits scored a season-high five goals in the third period to overcome the 2-1 deficit they were facing at the start of the final period. Friday night’s 5-3 win over Orlando on the 4th annual Stick-It-To-Cancer Night presented by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System was highlighted by Bretton Cameron’s hat trick, helping him to score his team-leading 16th goal of the season. Thanks to the fans and partners, more than $13,000 will be donated to local cancer-related non-profit organizations! The intensity was high on Saturday night. Greenville prevailed 5-2 on the strength of another two-goal performance by Michael Joly. The rookie has scored 14 goals in 19 games. In total, 14 different skaters earned a point as the Swamp Rabbits captured sole possession of second place in the South Division. Continue reading

Danbury, CT Nikolai Okhlobystin recorded two goals in a Gordie Howe hat trick, including the game-winning goal, as the Danbury Titans won their second in a row over the Cornwall Nationals by a 5-2 score on Saturday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.
