BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings

HERSHEY, PA – After stealing one in Springfield the night before, the Hartford Wolf Pack couldn’t duplicate the same success in Hershey dropping a 4-2 decision to the Bears on Saturday night before 10,561 at the Giant Center.

The Bears took a lead at 7:57 of the first period when Travis Boyd intercepted Pack starting goaltender, Brandon Halverson’s, clearing attempt from behind the net. Boyd came along the right wing boards and deposited the puck into the open net for his eleventh goal of the season and gave the Bears a 1-0 lead. It was the 33rd time out of 49 games played that the Pack’s opposition has scored the game’s first goal.

The Bears added to their lead on a gorgeous play at 18:11. Continue reading

BOURQUE ENJOYING THE ALL STAR GAME

The old adage that, “It never gets old,” certainly applies for All Star appearances.

For the Hartford Wolf Pack’s Chris Bourque, in his first season representing the team and the starting lineup nod is something he does not take for granted.

“I am very proud to represent the organization,” The elder of the two Bourque’s on the Pack roster said with a wide grin. “It really is an honor to be selected, especially by the fans. I’m sure my wife and mother might have voted for me more than once.”

Bourque did appear in the AHL All-Star Game twice before as a member of the Hershey Bears, but the veteran forward knows the selection isn’t about just one guy. “I have to thank my teammates and linemates. Joey (Crabb), Oscar (Lindberg) and I have started to develop some real chemistry and we’re buzzing real good out there. My success comes from playing with them. The coaching staff, the training and equipment staff are a big part of this as well.” Continue reading

HARTFORD, CT – A three goal third period powered a Hartford Wolf Pack come-from-behind victory over the St. John’s Ice Caps 4-2 before 4,248 at the XL Center Friday night.

The two teams square off again Saturday night at 7pm. The Pack boosted their record to 18-11-2-2 (40 pts) and maintain a firm grip on third place in the Northeast Division. The Ice Caps record drops to 12-16-5-1 (30 pts) good for fifth in the Atlantic Division.

“It was encouraging,” Pack head coach Ken Gernander said. “We played better as the game went along and we don’t rely on our (penalty) kill as much as we did. It was some pretty good stuff going down the stretch there.” Continue reading

Hershey, PA, November 9, 2014 – Oscar Lindberg scored two goals, including the third-period game-winner, Sunday at Giant Center, to lead the Hartford Wolf Pack to a 3-2 win over the Hershey Bears, in the second of back-to-back games between the two teams.

Hershey took the first of the two contests Saturday night, scoring four third-period goals to erase a 2-0 deficit, in a 4-2 win.

“I think we played a pretty greasy game, and we had some good power plays and we found a way to win, that’s what counts,” said Lindberg, who upped his team-leading goal total on the year to eight. “On the power play I got some good looks and a good shot, and those pucks don’t go in if we don’t have a screen, and our guys did a good job in there.” Continue reading
