Road Warriors Return Three Familiar Names, Add Skelly

Greenville, SC: Today the Greenville Road Warriors, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, announced the signings of returning forward Scott Arnold and defensemen Andrew Himelson and Matt Bruneteau. The team also added a new face in former Las Vegas Wranglers forward Shawn Skelly.

“Scott is a reliable forward with very strong character. He is the type of player that can be relied upon as a leader.” Head Coach Dean Stork said. “Andrew and Matt are defensemen that can shut down the opposition and make seamless plays with quick and accurate puck movement. Shawn provides more scoring ability to the team with his high offensive talent.”

Arnold played 49 games with the Road Warriors last season, including 16 postseason games after being acquired in a trade with the Toledo Walleye. During the regular season, Arnold scored nine goals and tallied five assists. The Montreal, Quebec native scored five goals in the postseason, including an overtime winner in round one against Kalamazoo. After spending two years at Niagara University, Arnold split the 2012-13 season between the Gwinnett Gladiators and the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.

Himelson returns to the Road Warriors after skating in 35 games during the regular season and 13 games in the playoffs. The defenseman began his rookie season last year with the Tulsa Oilers in the CHL and the Knoxville Ice Bears of the SPHL. The 24-year-old played his first game with the Road Warriors on January 3rd and went on to post 10 points (1G, 9A) and a +6 rating. Himelson was born in Monroe, New York.

Bruneteau, 24, split the remainder of last season between Greenville and Fort Wayne after finishing his collegiate career with Lake Superior State University. Professionally, he totaled ten games played and notched two assists; both while playing with the Road Warriors. The Omaha, Nebraska native served as an alternate captain for the Lake State last season. He finished the NCAA season with one goal and three assists in 36 games played. His career as a Laker finished with 146 games played, 18 points (3G, 15A) and 100 penalty minutes.

MISSIAEN BACK TO HARTFORD

Jason-Missiaen-Greenville1BY: Mitch Beck, Editor, Howlings

According to the NHL transaction wire, and in a bit of a surprising move, the New York Rangers have resigned restricted free agent goaltender, Jason Missiaen to a one year, two way deal.

According to capgeek.com, the deal is for $715K should Missiaen make it to the NHL level and will pay the 6’8 24 year old from Chatham, Ontario $67,500 at the AHL.

The deal is surprising in that Missiaen struggled mightily while in Hartford with the Pack last season, especially at the beginning of the season. When the Rangers sent he and Jeff Malcolm to the ECHL, they brought in Dov Grumet-Morris, the team’s MVP and then David LeNeveu to replace them.

Missiaen found his game while in Greenville and played very well for the Road Warriors. Missiaen led the team into the playoffs and through the first couple of rounds but was injured in the Roadies run to the conference finals where they were knocked out of Kelly Cup contention.

It is unclear if Missiaen will stay in Hartford and understudy Cedric Desjardins or head back to Greenville to lead the Roadies. Obviously that will be determined at training camp.
