Swamp Rabbits Dealt Loss In Solar Bears Rematch

Orlando, FLThe Greenville Swamp Rabbits (23-18-4-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, put forth a 45 shot effort against the Orlando Solar Bears (23-15-5-2), falling 6-3 during a wild finish at the Amway Center. CANTLON: (FRI) PACK BEING LAST PHASE OF REGULAR SEASON

BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings

HARTFORD, CT –  This is it, do or die, the last roundup, pick whatever cliche you like, as they all apply to the Hartford Wolf Pack

The New York Rangers top AHL affiliate team is mired at 29th of a 30-team AHL. If the Pack is hoping to make a run at a playoff spot, with just 31 games to go, it has to start now.

The Pack is in dire need of putting together something that has eluded them all season, a serious winning streak.  For them to make a viable run at the eighth and final playoff spot presently held by the St. John’s IceCaps, they’ll need to make up nine points. To catch the Hershey Bears, who are in the 7th seeded spot, they’ll have to make up 15 points.

Catching either of those teams will be a daunting task, but it is still possible for the Pack to do it, but the chances are exceptionally slim.

Numbers tell the whole story of how the season has gone for the residents of the XL Center. Overall their record is 18-24-3-2 as they prepare to host a pair of upstate New York teams, the Utica Comets on Friday at 7:15 pm and on Saturday the Rochester Americans visit with a 7:30 pm start time as the second half of a hockey doubleheader with UConn.
