A NEW GOALIE IN TOWN 

RANGERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH FREE AGENT GOALTENDER JASON MISSIAEN

New York RangersNew York, March 24, 2011 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent goaltender Jason Missiaen.

Missiaen, 20, appeared in 53 games with Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) this season, posting a 10-33-8 record, along with a 3.33 goals against average, an .893 save percentage and one shutout.  He ranked third in the league with 1,403 saves and fourth in minutes played with 3,026:06 of ice time in his first QMJHL season.  Missiaen made his QMJHL debut on October 1 at Prince Edward Island, and registered his first win with a 19-save effort in a 4-3 victory at Rouyn-Noranda on November 26.  He posted a record of 5-3-3, along with a 2.77 goals against average and a .903 save percentage from November 26 at Rouyn-Noranda to December 29 at Chicoutimi.  Missiaen also recorded his first QMJHL shutout with a 23-save performance vs. Rouyn-Noranda on February 5.

Prior to joining Baie-Comeau, the 6-8, 220-pounder appeared in 131 contests over four seasons with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), posting a 48-65-18 record, along with a 3.77 goals against average, a .901 save percentage and three shutouts.  He established career-highs in games played (59) and wins (27) in his final season with Peterborough in 2009-10.  Missiaen captured the Petes’ Player of the Week Award for the week ending September 20, 2009, winning each of Peterborough’s two games to begin the season while allowing just three goals against for a 1.50 goals against average and stopping 68 of 71 shots for a .958 save percentage.  In 2007-08, Missiaen led Peterborough with career-highs in goals against average (3.28) and save percentage (.911).  He made his Major Junior debut with Peterborough on October 15, 2006, and recorded his first OHL win with a 43-save effort in a 3-2 win vs. Guelph on February 10, 2007.  In addition, Missiaen is 0-7-1 with a 3.50 goals against average and a .914 save percentage in eight career OHL playoff contests with Peterborough.  He ranked sixth in the league with a 2.77 goals against average and fifth with a .925 save percentage in four games during the 2010 OHL playoffs.

The Chatham, Ontario native was originally selected as Montreal’s fourth round choice, 116th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
