GREENVILLE LOOKS TO FEAST ON STINGRAY

Tonight the Road Warriors finish off a five-game road swing by taking a trip west on I-85 to pay the Gwinnett Gladiators a visit. It is Greenville’s last game at the Arena at Gwinnett Center this season.

The Road Warriors (39-21-5, 83 pts.) visit Gwinnett (37-18-11, 85 pts.) today for the 15th of 17 meetings between the clubs this season. Greenville has gone 5-0-1 in its last six road games and has the second most road wins in the ECHL with 19. Only Reading at 20 has more wins away from home than Greenville. Only one of those 19 wins, though, has come at the Arena at Gwinnett Center, and that was a 4-2 win on October 22, 2011. Since then the Road Warriors have gone 0-3-2 in Gwinnett with each of their prior two trips resulting in shootout losses.

The games between the teams in this building have been exceptionally close lately with four of the last five games decided by just one goal.

• Greenville’s 735 shots in the first period are the second most in the ECHL (K-Zoo 738) while their 67 goals are second most. Justin Bowers leads current Road Warriors with 183 shots.
• Greenville is averaging 3.03 goals per road game this season. The 103 goals scored away from home are the sixth most in the league. Road Warriors have given up 102 goals on the road.
• The Road Warriors’ magic number to clinch a Kelly Cup Playoffs berth is 4. Any combination of the 9th place team losing standings points and the Road Warriors gaining points will shrink the number.
• Greenville’s goalies’ .783 save percentage in shootouts is third best in the ECHL.
• Greenville’s league-best road power play has produced at least one power play goal in five of the last seven games since Feb. 25. Road Warriors are 6-for-30 (20%) on PP in Gwinnett this season.
